BEE RICH PRODUCT NOTES
PROPOLIS
Propolis has been around for over 40 million years and has been used by man both internally and externally for thousands of years as a healing agent. Hippocrates, the Greek physician, prescribed the use of propolis to help heal sores and wounds and internally to heal ulcers. Propolis, from the Greek word, "PRO", meaning "in defense of" and "POLIS" meaning "city", is descriptive of the protection propolis provides the bee hives. It wasn't until the 1950's that scientists, with the help of new analytical techniques, began to isolate the important components of propolis and show that it provides many benefits to humans.
The protective properties of propolis is what man has found so helpful thru the centuries.
What is Propolis
Propolis (bee glue) is a dark sticky resinous substance bees collect from leaf buds, twigs and tree bark. The bees carry the propolis back to their hives and mix it with their salivary secretions and wax flakes. Propolis contains 55% resins and balsams, 30% beeswax, 10% etheric oils, and 5% pollen. The bees use this material for two very specific and important purposes:
The main role of propolis is the protection of bees against disease. Bees coat every inch of the internal walls of their hives with a thin layer of propolis to sterilize the comb and keep their hives free of bacteria. The hive is an enclosed unit, it is hot and moist, the perfect breeding ground for microorganisms. Because of the propolis, the hive is virtually free of bacteria, mold and mildew.
Also to protect the young larva, bees use propolis as an antiseptic lining in breeder cells before the Queen lays her eggs. Any intruders that get into the hive, such as mice, are stung to death and then embalmed with a protective coating of propolis. This coating guards against bacteria and viral infections generated by the deterioration of the intruder.
Propolis works against bacteria in several ways. One study reported that it prevented bacterial cell division and also broke down bacterial walls and cytoplasm, (material inside the cell membrane containing the necessary components of life), which is how some prescription antibiotics work.
The second role of propolis is to reinforce the hive by sealing cracks and crevices to protect the hive from the cold and rain, as well as for narrowing the entrance of the hive from intruders.
Chemical analysis of Bee Rich Propolis Tablets shows that it is extremely complex. Bee Rich Propolis is a rich source of minerals, vitamins C, E, provitamin A, and B-Complex. Bee Rich Propolis is high in flavonoids, (flavonoids are a super class of antioxidant), which by themselves may account for many of the benefits of propolis. It contains 21 different flavonoids and antioxidants to help control free radicals. Free radicals are caused by waste from our body cells that increase with stress and infections as well as through environmental contaminants and toxins. They cause cell damage or cell death if they are not neutralized. The antioxidants found in Bee Rich Propolis help neutralize the free radicals and prevent cell damage. Bee propolis is believed to stimulate phagocytosis, the means by which white blood cells destroy bacteria.
As a supplement, Bee Rich Propolis helps provides your body the protection and healing properties that has allowed bees to survive for millions of years against many enemies. It is an excellent aid against bacterial infections. Humans have benefitted from propolis for 1000's of years and we are only now starting to scratch the surface of propolis' benefits. The high nutrient and antiseptic properties of propolis help build resistance to disease. Propolis has long been know to have a natural antibacterial effect.
